Off the Beaten Path in Morocco

Eleven nights that add two unhurried days on the Mediterranean at Tamuda Bay to the standard Marrakech-to-Sahara loop.

Most Morocco itineraries end where they began , back in Marrakech or Casablanca once the desert loop closes, with the coast left out entirely. This one adds two nights at Tamuda Bay, a stretch of Mediterranean coastline near Tangier that rarely makes it onto a first Morocco trip, between the Fez medina and the flight home.

This is one of the Morocco itineraries we've planned for a group before , eleven nights, twelve days across Marrakech, Ouarzazate, the Sahara at Merzouga, Fez, Tamuda Bay and Casablanca, built for four adults travelling together over the New Year. It's shared here to show what an off-the-beaten-path route through Morocco could look like. A version built around your own group's size, pace, and dates would look a little different , and that's the point.

Why Go Past the Kasbahs to Morocco's Coast

Why Go Past the Kasbahs to Morocco's Coast

Tamuda Bay sits on the Mediterranean rather than the Atlantic, a different stretch of coastline from the one most Morocco trips glimpse briefly in Casablanca. Two full nights here , one at leisure on arrival, one entirely free , give the trip a stretch with nothing scheduled after nine days of temples, medinas and desert driving.

The rest of the route still covers everything a standard Morocco loop would: Marrakech's palaces and souks, a High Atlas crossing via the Tizi n'Tichka pass, a night in a Sahara desert camp at Merzouga, and Fez's medina , timed here over New Year's, with a mandatory St Sylvester gala dinner marking the year turning over in Fez.

If you asked us: the Tamuda Bay stop earns its place precisely because it isn't a headline destination , it's the two days that let the trip breathe before Rabat and Casablanca close things out.

A camel ride into the dunes, a New Year's Eve dinner in Fez's medina, two open days on a Mediterranean coastline most Morocco trips never reach , eleven nights gives this route room the standard loop doesn't have.

This is one of the itineraries we've built for a group travelling together before, shared here to show what the trip could look like. A version built for your own group , size, pace, and dates , would look a little different.
