Culture
A Brussels walking tour through its historic centre, and Ghent's castles and cathedrals on the same day trip.
Two countries, two train rides, and a boat trip through a village with no roads.
Amsterdam and Brussels sit close enough to link by train in under two hours, which makes them an easy pair for a couple who wants canals, windmills and medieval town squares without adding a flight in between.
This is one of the itineraries we've planned for a couple before , 14 nights, 15 days across Amsterdam, Brussels and Delft, built for 2 travelling together. It's shared here to show what a couple's trip through the Netherlands and Belgium could look like. A version built around your own pace and dates would look a little different , and that's the point.
Why This Trip
May puts Keukenhof's tulip gardens in full bloom, and pairs well with Zaanse Schans's windmills on the same countryside day trip out of Amsterdam. Giethoorn, reached the next day, swaps windmills for a boat ride through a village built without roads.
Brussels, three nights later and a short train ride away, adds a walking tour of its own old town and a day trip to Bruges and Ghent , two of Belgium's most photographed towns, both reachable in a single day. The final week, based in Delft, was left open for the couple to explore independently rather than filled with fixed touring.
If you asked us: don't rush Giethoorn. It's a half-day trip on paper, but the boat ride is the kind of thing worth lingering over.
per person, based on 2 adults travelling together, excluding international airfare, travel insurance and Schengen visa.
