Culture
Frida Kahlo's Coyoacán, Teotihuacan's pyramids and Mexico City's street art.
Eight nights from a sunrise balloon over the pyramids of Teotihuacan to a catamaran on the Caribbean.
Mexico gives a couple two holidays in one. The capital is for art, food and music after dark, and the Caribbean coast is for turquoise water, ruins above the sea and cenotes to swim in. A short flight joins the two.
This is one of the Mexico itineraries we've planned for a couple before, eight nights, nine days across Mexico City and Cancun, built for two adults travelling together. It's shared here to show what a couples' trip through Mexico could look like. A version built around your own dates and pace would look a little different, and that's the point.
Why This Trip
November is dry and comfortable on both halves of the trip. The capital is pleasant for walking and the Yucatan is warm without the peak-summer heat, which suits the Tulum ruins and the Cenote Mariposa swim.
The trip is paced so that the early starts come first, while energy is high. The balloon flight at Teotihuacan opens the Mexico City days, a mariachi evening at Garibaldi and a morning with Frida Kahlo follow, and the Caribbean half has only one early start before a night at Xplor.
If you asked us: book the balloon for the second day, not the first. Mexico City sits at about 2,240 metres, and a pre-dawn start is far easier after a night's sleep than after a long flight.
