Iceland Family Vacation

Six nights based in Reykjavik, built around two children , northern lights after dark, glaciers and black sand by day.

Iceland with children works because almost nothing requires a long day of walking to appreciate , a waterfall is a waterfall from the car park, a glacier lagoon is close enough to the road, and the northern lights need nothing more than a blanket and some patience. This trip stays based in one hotel and lets the day tours do the moving.

This is one of the Iceland itineraries we've planned for a family before , six nights, seven days based in Reykjavik with day tours across the Golden Circle, South Iceland and the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, built for 2 adults and 2 children travelling together. It's shared here to show what a family trip through Iceland could look like. A version built around your own family's size, pace, and dates would look a little different , and that's the point.

Why Travel to Iceland with Your Family

March keeps the aurora season going while still allowing daytime touring on reasonable roads. The northern lights tour goes out on the first night, before anyone is too tired to stay up for it, and Flyover Iceland's flight-simulation ride the next day works well with children who want thrills without a long day outdoors.

One base hotel for all six nights means no repacking between cities , just a different day tour each morning, from the Golden Circle's geysers and waterfalls to the black sand beaches and glacier lagoon on Iceland's south coast.

A full day at leisure sits deliberately in the middle of the week, with no vehicle and nothing booked , useful with two children on a trip that otherwise moves at a fairly ambitious pace.
