Colombo's Galle Face Green makes an easy first evening , street food and sunset, no itinerary required. From there, the drive into Nuwara Eliya brings a tea plantation tour and Gregory Lake, before Kandy's Royal Botanical Gardens, a cultural dance show, and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic's evening pooja ceremony.

The Bentota day trip near the end swaps another city stop for a Madu River boat safari through the mangroves and a visit to the Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda , usually the stop a family remembers longest. If you asked us: keep the Kandy gem museum visit optional and use that hour for the lake walk instead.

Sri Lanka Trip Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Colombo

    Check in, then an evening at Galle Face Green for sunset and street food, with a short drive past Independence Square and Pettah Market if time allows.

  2. Day 2

    Colombo to Nuwara Eliya

    A morning visit to Gangaramaya Temple, then the drive up to Nuwara Eliya with a tea plantation tour along the way. The evening closes with a walk around Gregory Lake.

  3. Day 3

    Nuwara Eliya Sightseeing

    A visit to Seetha Amman Temple, with an optional stop at Hakgala Botanical Garden before an afternoon at leisure.

  4. Day 4

    Nuwara Eliya to Kandy

    A drive to Kandy via the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya. The evening brings a traditional cultural show and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic's evening pooja.

  5. Day 5

    Kandy, at Leisure

    A city tour covering Kandy Lake and its markets, with an optional gem museum visit and the rest of the day free.

  6. Day 6

    Kandy to Colombo

    The drive back to Colombo, with an afternoon of shopping at One Galle Face Mall or Odel.

  7. Day 7

    Day Excursion to Bentota

    A Madu River boat safari through the mangroves, followed by a visit to the Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda, with the option of beach time before returning to Colombo.

  8. Day 8

    Departure

    Breakfast at the hotel, then a transfer to the airport for the flight home.
