Culture
Melbourne's laneway cafes and Sydney's Rocks district, the city's original convict settlement.
Ten nights across four cities, timed for a couple with one eleven-year-old who wants Dreamworld's rides as much as the wildlife.
Australia solves a real problem for a family with one child old enough to want thrills alongside the wildlife , Dreamworld's roller coasters one day, penguins waddling ashore at sunset the next. This route keeps the pace even across four cities, two or three nights each, with a full day built in for every major stop.
This is one of the Australia itineraries we've planned for a family before , ten nights, eleven days across Melbourne, Cairns, Gold Coast and Sydney, built for two adults and one child (11 years) travelling together. It's shared here to show what a family trip through Australia could look like. A version built around your own family's size, pace, and dates would look a little different , and that's the point.
Why This Trip
Melbourne opens the trip with the Great Ocean Road and the Twelve Apostles in one long day, followed by Phillip Island's penguin parade at sunset , the kind of day an eleven-year-old still talks about months later. Cairns adds the Kuranda Scenic Railway through the rainforest, a slower, different pace after two full days on the road.
Gold Coast is where the trip turns toward theme parks , a jet boat ride, the Aquaduck's bus-to-boat trick, and a full day at Dreamworld , before Sydney closes it out with the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and a Blue Mountains day trip with a wildlife park built in.
If you asked us: keep Cairns to two nights, not three. The Kuranda railway and rainforest are worth the stop, but Gold Coast and Sydney are where an eleven-year-old's attention actually goes.
