Family Trip to New Zealand

Fifteen nights across both islands, paced for a family travelling with an infant and closing on a scenic train instead of another flight.

New Zealand with an infant works better than most destinations give it credit for. Flights are direct enough, hotels understand cots and highchairs without being asked twice, and there's no shortage of days built around doing very little at all. This one keeps Auckland light, gives Rotorua a farm and a spa to slow down in, and saves the drama for Milford Sound and a full day around Mt. Cook.

This is one of the New Zealand itineraries we've planned for a family before , fifteen nights, sixteen days across Auckland, Rotorua, Queenstown, Wanaka, Lake Tekapo and Christchurch, built for four adults and one infant travelling together. It's shared here to show what a family trip through New Zealand could look like. A version built around your own family's size, pace, and dates would look a little different , and that's the point.

Why Travel to New Zealand with Your Family

Why Travel to New Zealand with Your Family

Late February into March sits at the tail of the South Island's summer, with warm days for Mt. Cook tour and clear evenings for stargazing at Lake Tekapo. The pace stays deliberately loose , a free day built into Auckland, another into Queenstown, and nothing scheduled before a reasonable hour.

The trip closes on the TranzAlpine, one of the more scenic train rides anywhere, dropping the family into Christchurch instead of another transfer. If you asked us: the free days matter more than any single attraction on this route , build them in first with an infant along, and let the sightseeing fill in around them.

Ready When You Are

Plan Your Family Trip to New Zealand

A farm show in Rotorua, a fjord in Fiordland, a mountain pass on the TranzAlpine , New Zealand gives a family with an infant along plenty to see without ever having to rush any of it.

This is one of the itineraries we've built for a family travelling together before, shared here to show what the trip could look like. A version built for your own family , size, pace, and dates , would look a little different.
