Wat Sisaket, Haw Prakeo, and Luang Prabang's Wat Xiengthong.
Six nights through Laos's capital, its limestone valley, and the old royal city on the river.
Laos moves slower than its neighbours, and this itinerary is built around that pace ; a capital city that still feels unhurried, a limestone valley best explored by tuk-tuk and cave, and a royal city on the Mekong where the day starts with monks collecting alms at sunrise.
This is one of the Laos itineraries we've planned for a couple before ; six nights, seven days across Vientiane, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang, built for two adults travelling together. It's shared here to show what a couple's trip through Laos could look like. A version built around your own dates and pace would look a little different ; and that's the point.
Why This Trip
Vientiane opens the trip at a walking pace ; Wat Sisaket's frescoed halls, the Emerald Buddha's former home at Haw Prakeo, and an afternoon at Buddha Park, a sculpture garden built by a priest-shaman in 1958 that still feels strange to walk through.
Vang Vieng then trades temples for landscape: a waterfall, a cave system, the Blue Lagoon, and a long-tail boat ride on the Nam Song River, all reachable in a single, loosely paced day.
Luang Prabang closes the trip as its clear highlight ; the 5 a.m. alms-giving ceremony, a Mekong cruise to the Pak Ou Caves, and a climb up Mount Phousi for sunset over the river. Travenza tip: set an alarm for the alms-giving. It's early, and it's the one thing on this itinerary that can't be rescheduled to fit a slower morning.
