Madagascar rewards travellers who pick two regions and go deep rather than chase a whole-island loop the road network can't really support. This trip keeps to that logic , a rainforest stay in Andasibe for the lemurs, then a flight north to Nosy Be for the beach half of the trip, with nothing squeezed in between.

This is one of the Madagascar itineraries we've planned for a couple before , seven nights, eight days across Antananarivo, Andasibe-Mantadia and Nosy Be, built for two adults travelling together. It's shared here to show what a couple's trip through Madagascar could look like. A version built around your own dates and pace would look a little different , and that's the point.

Andasibe's forest walks are short enough to do twice , a morning visit to Analamazaotra Reserve for the indri lemur's call, and an evening night walk through Vakona Private Reserve for the nocturnal species that don't show themselves by day, including a stop at Vakona's Lemur Island.

Nosy Be closes the trip on a slower note. A boat day out to Nosy Tanikely's marine reserve for snorkelling among reef fish and coral is the one fixed excursion; the rest of the island time is left open, which is usually how a couple wants a beach stretch to run.

Madagascar Trip Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Antananarivo Arrival

    A transfer from the airport to the hotel, with the rest of the day free to settle in.

  2. Day 2

    Antananarivo to Andasibe

    A scenic 150km drive east through the highlands, with a stop at Peyrieras Reptile Reserve for chameleons and other endemic reptiles. In the evening, an optional night walk through the reserve for nocturnal wildlife.

  3. Day 3

    Analamazaotra & Vakona Reserves

    A morning walk through Analamazaotra Reserve with a local guide, listening for the indri lemur's call. In the afternoon, Vakona Private Reserve's Lemur Island for closer sightings, plus a stop at the crocodile farm.

  4. Day 4

    Andasibe to Antananarivo

    A drive back through the highlands with stops for photos and village life, arriving in the capital by afternoon with the evening free for the craft markets.

  5. Day 5

    Antananarivo to Nosy Be

    A domestic flight to Nosy Be and a transfer to a beachfront hotel. The rest of the day is free , by the pool or on the beach , with dinner included.

  6. Day 6

    Nosy Be , Nosy Tanikely

    A full day at the Nosy Tanikely marine reserve, with snorkelling among tropical fish and coral, a picnic lunch on the island, and a seafood dinner back in Nosy Be.

  7. Day 7

    Nosy Be to Antananarivo

    A flight back to the capital, followed by a short city tour of the Royal Palace (Rova) and the handicraft market.

  8. Day 8

    Departure

    A transfer to the airport for the international flight home.
