Tashichho Dzong, Punakha Dzong, and Changangkha Lhakhang, Thimphu's temple for new-born blessings.
Six nights built around a ten-year-old's pace.
Bhutan moves at a pace that suits a family with a ten-year-old better than most destinations ; mountain roads set the speed, not a schedule, and a country that limits its own tourist numbers means fewer crowds to navigate at every dzong.
This is one of the Bhutan itineraries we've planned for a family before ; six nights, seven days across Paro, Thimphu, Punakha and Phobjikha, built for four adults and one child (ten years) travelling together. It's shared here to show what a family trip through Bhutan could look like. A version built around your own family's pace and dates would look a little different ; and that's the point.
Why This Trip
Thimphu's Changangkha Lhakhang is the temple Bhutanese parents visit to bless a new-born, and it makes a quietly meaningful stop even for visiting families. The Takin Preserve Centre, home to Bhutan's odd national animal ; part goat, part antelope ; is the kind of stop that holds a child's attention without anyone having to explain why it matters.
Phobjikha Valley adds a different pace on day four: a glacial valley best known for the black-necked cranes that migrate here from Tibet, with an option to hike around it rather than just look. The Taktsang Monastery hike near the end is a two-to-three-hour climb, manageable for a ten-year-old with breaks, and the payoff ; a monastery clinging to a cliff 900 metres up ; earns every step.
per adult and ₹1,22,685 per child, based on 4 adults + 1 child (10 years) travelling together, including airfare via Kolkata, breakfast and dinner daily
