Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage on day one is the kind of stop a group photographs for years , baby elephants fed from oversized bottles, bathed in the river alongside. Kandy's evening cultural show, with its drummers and dancers, gives the group a shared first-night memory before anyone's even unpacked properly.

Two nights in Beruwala keep the back half of the trip loose , a Madu River boat ride and the Kosgoda turtle farm in the morning, then the rest of the day left to the group to split off however they want along Bentota's beach.
