Culture
A shared game drive culture across two countries , Kenyan guides through the Mara, a Tanzanian guide once you cross into the Serengeti.
Masai Mara by jeep, an overland border crossing into the Serengeti, and a Zanzibar finish for three friends.
Most Masai Mara trips stop at the Kenya border. This one crosses it , an overland drive through Isebania into the Serengeti, with a fresh set of plains and a Tanzanian guide waiting on the other side. It's a route that spans two countries, with the larger share of the trip , five of the nine nights , spent in Tanzania.
This is one of the Tanzania itineraries we've planned for a group of friends before , nine nights, ten days across Nairobi, Masai Mara, Serengeti and Zanzibar, built for 3 adults travelling together. It's shared here to show what a friends' trip through Tanzania, and the Kenya border crossing that leads into it, could look like. A version built around your own group's size, pace, and dates would look a little different , and that's the point.
Why This Trip
The Masai Mara and the Serengeti are one ecosystem split by a border, and driving between them overland instead of flying straight in means an extra game drive built into the transfer itself, at no real cost in time.
Zanzibar closes the trip the way it usually does , a shift from dust and game drives to a beach resort, with three full days of nothing scheduled.
If you asked us: this route makes sense for a group that already has Kenya on the list. If Tanzania is the only stop, we'd fly straight into Kilimanjaro and put the extra day into the Serengeti instead.
per adult, based on 3 adults travelling together, excluding international airfare

Day By Day
Arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and a pre-safari briefing from the local guide. The Nairobi hotel for the night is on your own arrangements.
The drive out to the Masai Mara, arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon shared game drive across the grassland the reserve is named for.
Morning and afternoon game drives, or a full day out with a packed lunch , the Mara's circuits laid open either way, with the big five all resident in the reserve.
A second full day in the Mara, at whichever pace the group prefers.
A packed lunch and a drop-off at the Isebania border, where a Tanzanian guide takes over for the drive into the Serengeti , a game drive built into the crossing itself.
A full day of game viewing in the Serengeti, with the option of a packed lunch out in the park or a return to camp for a hot one.
A packed lunch, a transfer to the Seronera airstrip, and a flight to Zanzibar. The resort and the beach take over from here.
A full day on the beach, nothing scheduled.
One more day at the resort before the trip winds down.
Check-out, a transfer to the airport, and a domestic flight connection back to Nairobi for the flight home.
