Museum Island's Nefertiti bust, Rothenburg's medieval old town and Berlin's landmarks by rickshaw.
A 7-night Germany couples trip across Berlin and Munich, with a Spree cruise, a Reichstag dome sunset, Neuschwanstein Castle and the Romantic Road.
Seven nights from a sunset over the Reichstag dome to a fairytale castle in the Bavarian Alps. Germany gives a couple two holidays in one. Berlin is for history, art and long evenings on the water, and Bavaria is for castles, medieval towns and a beer hall or two. A high-speed train joins the two in about four hours. This is one of the Germany itineraries we've planned for a couple before, seven nights, eight days across Berlin and Munich, built for two adults travelling together. It's shared here to show what a couples' trip through Germany could look like. A version built around your own dates and pace would look a little different, and that's the point.
Why This Trip
May, June and September are the sweet spot. The days are long and mild, which suits an evening cruise on the Spree and a sunset from the Reichstag dome, and the Bavarian countryside is green and clear for the castle days. The trip is paced so that Berlin comes first, on foot and by rickshaw, and the two big Bavarian days follow once the couple has settled in. Neuschwanstein and the Romantic Road are on separate days, so neither is rushed, and the last evening is a private beer tour rather than another early start. If you asked us: register for the Reichstag dome as soon as your dates are fixed. Entry is free, but a booked slot is required, and the sunset slots go first.

Day By Day
A private transfer to the hotel and a rest, then an evening boat tour along the River Spree from Friedrichstrasse, past the Berlin Cathedral with its baroque dome and the Reichstag, with the stories behind each building.
A rickshaw tour through the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, Tiergarten Park, Potsdamer Platz, Checkpoint Charlie, Gendarmenmarkt, Bebelplatz and Museum Island, with photo stops along the way. Late in the afternoon, a booked slot at the Reichstag dome for the view over the city at sunset.
A leisurely morning on Museum Island, with the Nefertiti bust at the Neues Museum, medieval sculpture and Byzantine art at the Bode Museum and the Alte Nationalgalerie's 19th-century paintings. The afternoon is free, and the evening is a skip-the-line ride up the Berlin TV Tower at Alexanderplatz as the lights come on.
A high-speed train to Munich and a private transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, a half day food tour of the Viktualienmarkt, the open-air market that has stood since 1807, with sausages, cheeses, pretzels, cured meats and seasonal produce to taste.
A full day in the Bavarian Alps, with a guided tour of Linderhof's lavish interiors, a possible stop in Oberammergau for its wood carvings, and about three hours at Neuschwanstein, with a guided tour inside and the Marienbrücke viewpoint. The premium small-group option, with entry fees included, suits a couple best.
A day trip along the 350 km Romantic Road, with Harburg Castle, one of Germany's best preserved medieval castles, and a stroll through the old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The Harburg Castle entry fee of €10 is charged locally.
A morning rail trip from Munich to Herrenchiemsee Palace on its lake island. In the evening, a private tour of Munich's beer halls, beer gardens and historic cellars, with the new Beer and Oktoberfest Museum, and tastings paired with Weisswurst and roast pork.
A private transfer to the airport for the flight home.

A sunset over the Reichstag dome, a castle above the Alps, a beer hall after dark, Germany gives a couple a week that moves from the capital to the countryside without ever feeling rushed. This is one of the itineraries we've built for a couple travelling together before, shared here to show what the trip could look like. A version built for your own dates and pace would look a little different.
