Berlin's landmarks by rickshaw, Checkpoint Charlie and the Brandenburg Gate, and the Bavarian castle tradition at Linderhof and Neuschwanstein.
A 6-night Germany family vacation across Berlin and Munich.
Six nights across Berlin and Munich, with a rickshaw ride, a spy museum, a room full of ball pits and a castle that looks like it came out of a storybook. Germany is easier with children than most people expect. Both cities are clean and simple to move around, the best attractions are hands-on, and the one big day out, to Neuschwanstein, is the kind of trip children remember long after the holiday. This is one of the Germany itineraries we've planned for a family before, six nights, seven days across Berlin and Munich, built for two adults and two children (7 and 11 years) travelling together. It's shared here to show what a family trip through Germany could look like. A version built around your own family's size, pace and dates would look a little different, and that's the point.
Why This Trip
June to September is warm and the days are long, which helps on a trip that moves between two cities. Berlin comes first and is the more active half, with a rickshaw tour that covers the main landmarks without long walks, and a TV Tower ride that a seven-year old will talk about for weeks. Two days stand out. The German Spy Museum lets children crack secret codes, cross a laser maze and test how quickly a password can be hacked, and IKONO Berlin follows with 14 interactive rooms of floating lanterns, balloons, light painting and ball pits. In Munich, the BMW Museum shows more than 100 cars and exhibits, and the Neuschwanstein day gives the family a castle, a bridge viewpoint and a palace in the Alps. If you asked us: keep the day after Neuschwanstein slow. It is a long day with a lot of travel, and a half-day food tour at the Viktualienmarkt, with pretzels and sausages to taste, is an easy way to follow it.
