Lava, Light and Late Spring

Iceland in late May sits close enough to the summer solstice that the sky barely gets dark, which changes the kind of trip a couple can build , no waiting up for the aurora, more daylight hours for the south coast, and evenings that stretch as long as anyone wants them to.

This is one of the Iceland itineraries we've planned for a couple before , six nights, seven days based in Reykjavik with day tours across the Golden Circle, Jokulsarlon and the South Coast, built for 2 adults travelling together. It's shared here to show what a couples' trip through Iceland could look like. A version built around your own dates and pace would look a little different , and that's the point.

Why Travel to Iceland as a Couple

With the sky staying light past midnight in late May, a planetarium show at the Perlan Museum stands in for the northern lights the couple won't otherwise see this time of year , a fair trade, since Perlan's dome also holds the world's first indoor ice cave.

A helicopter tour over the glaciers and a lava show where a host handles real molten lava indoors both sit mid-week, alongside the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach on the south coast , a longer, fourteen-hour day that rewards an early start.

Travenza tip: the Sky Lagoon's seven-step ritual pairs well with the last full day, after the longer tours are done and there's nothing left to do but sit in geothermal water and look at the ocean.

Plan Your Iceland Romantic Getaway

Real lava up close, a helicopter over the glaciers, a planetarium sky since the real one won't go dark , late spring gives a couple an Iceland that runs on daylight instead of the aurora.

This is one of the itineraries we've built for a couple travelling together before, shared here to show what the trip could look like. A version built for your own dates and pace would look a little different.
