Heritage
The Vatican Museums, Colosseum and Roman Forum in Rome, plus Siena's medieval centre.
Rome's ruins, Sorrento's coast, and a gondola in Venice ; the classic Italy loop, done at a family's pace.
Italy rewards a family that takes it slow ; Rome's ancient sites, the Amalfi coastline from Sorrento, Tuscany's hill towns, Venice's canals, and Milan to close. It's a lot of ground, but each city gets enough nights that nobody's living out of a suitcase.
This is one of the Italy itineraries we've planned for a family before ; 12 nights, 13 days across Rome, Sorrento, Florence, Venice and Milan, built for 3 adults and a child travelling together. It's shared here to show what a family trip through Italy could look like. A version built around your own family's size, pace and dates would look a little different ; and that's the point.
Why This Trip
This route gives each city two to three nights, which matters more with kids than most itineraries account for ; Rome's Vatican and Colosseum tours are dense enough to need a full day each, and a rushed version leaves everyone tired by evening.
April sits ahead of the peak summer crowds and heat, so the Vatican Museums and Colosseum tours move at a manageable pace, and the Amalfi coast is warm without being packed.
Travenza Holidays tip: don't skip the vintage Fiat 500 photo tour in Sorrento. It's a small add-on, but it's the kind of thing a family remembers longer than another cathedral.
