Culture
Easter Island's Rapa Nui archaeological sites and Santiago's civic-centre architecture.
Nine nights that run the length of Chile , from Easter Island's stone giants to Patagonia's granite towers , with Santiago as the hinge in between.
Most South America itineraries stay on the continent. This one doesn't , Easter Island sits more than 3,700 kilometres off the Chilean coast, closer to Tahiti than to Santiago, and gets left off nearly every South America trip for exactly that reason. This route keeps it in, then runs south to Patagonia's Torres del Paine for the other end of Chile's range.
This is one of the South America itineraries we've planned for a couple before , nine nights, ten days across Santiago, Easter Island and Chilean Patagonia, built for two adults travelling together. It's shared here to show what an off-route trip through Chile could look like. A version built around your own dates and pace would look a little different , and that's the point.
Why This Trip
Easter Island's moai sit across several archaeological sites rather than one , the Rano Raraku quarry, where nearly 400 statues remain in different stages of carving, and Ahu Tongariki, the largest platform of restored moai on the island. Both take a dedicated two days most itineraries never allocate.
Patagonia adds an entirely different landscape at the other end of the trip , Torres del Paine's granite towers, glaciers and lakes, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve recognised as one of the world's more striking natural sites, reached from Puerto Natales rather than the more common El Calafate route on the Argentinian side.
