Culture
Penang's colonial architecture, heritage temples and street art, a full day's focus.
A week that trades a second Langkawi day for Penang's colonial streets and street art, the stop most Malaysia itineraries skip entirely.
Most Malaysia itineraries stop at Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur and call it a trip. This one adds a third register entirely ; Penang's colonial architecture, heritage temples and street art, the kind of detour first-timers rarely have the extra two nights for.
This is one of the Malaysia itineraries we've planned for a family before ; seven nights, eight days across Langkawi, Penang and Kuala Lumpur, the longest and widest-ranging route in this set, built for two adults and two children (8 and 3 years) travelling together over the New Year period. It's shared here to show what a Malaysia trip that goes past the usual two stops could look like. A version built around your own group's size, pace, and dates would look a little different ; and that's the point.
Why This Trip
A full free day sits in Langkawi over New Year's Eve itself, leaving the family to choose between the beach, the markets, or a quiet dinner without a scheduled tour competing for the evening. Penang follows, with a heritage-focused city tour built around a three-year-old's shorter attention span ; the same detour we'd point any traveller toward, family or not.
Genting Highlands and Batu Caves close the trip out on a single day near Kuala Lumpur, with Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park giving the youngest traveller something more active after two days of walking tours. If you asked us: Penang is the trip's most underrated stop ; most first-time Malaysia itineraries skip it entirely in favour of a second Langkawi day.
per adult and ₹53,950 per child (8 years), based on 2 adults and 2 children (8 and 3 years) travelling together, excluding international airfare
